Court Reporter Present
If you sign onto an event and there is another reporter or a Court Reporter is present you may have booked a 'Court Reporter Event'. To determine this you can look at the state the event is located in, if it is NJ or MI the Court Reporter is there on behalf of Depositions by Filevine.
If the event takes place in any other state you will need to determine who hired the Court Reporter.
- If the Court Reporter was hired by Filevine:
- This means the event is officially a Court Reporter Event. In this case, the Court Reporter owns the record and handles the swearing-in. Refer to 'Court reporter Events' for detailed guidance.
- If the Court Reporter was hired by opposing counsel:
- Sometimes opposing counsel hires a third-party Court Reporter without notifying Filevine or the client. In this situation, defer to the client for direction. They may dismiss the Court Reporter and have you continue as normal or they can have the Court Reporter own the record and solely use our software for its case management abilities. In that case you will just input attendee information, mark the result of the event, and close out the event.
- If the Court Reporter owns the record the attendees will have to reach out to the 3rd party Cort Reporter for certified transcripts
